Visa Requirements for German Nationals
Effective November 2014, German passport holders are required to obtain a visa prior to entering Rwanda. Travelers can apply for a visa online or upon arrival at the border.
Online Visa Application Process
To apply for a Rwanda visa online, German citizens must complete an online application form. The form includes personal and travel details, as well as a photograph and a copy of the passport's biometric data page. The application process is relatively straightforward and takes approximately 15 minutes.
Visa on Arrival
Alternatively, German travelers can obtain a visa on arrival at any of Rwanda's international airports or land borders. The visa fee is payable in US dollars, euros, or Rwandan francs. It is important to note that the visa on arrival option may only be available for stays of up to 30 days.
Embassy Recommendations
The Embassy of Rwanda strongly recommends that German applicants apply for a visa using a new EAC passport, as Rwandan passports issued before June 27, 2019, will expire on June 28, 2019.
Visa Exemption for Certain Countries
Since January 1, 2018, Rwanda has granted all citizens of the world a 30-day visa on arrival without prior application. However, this visa exemption does not apply to German citizens.
